Diabetes
Controlling diabetes can be tricky, but if you’re eating low carb, it’s that much easier. People with diabetes have high blood glucose which damages the body, so it makes perfect sense to avoid the carb-rich foods that put your blood glucose up.
If you have diabetes type 1 or 2 and eat a low carb diet you may notice:
- Reduced need for diabetes medicines (including insulin)
- Fewer hypos (low blood glucose)
- More energy
- It’s easier to lose weight
In addition, people with diabetes type 2 can cure their diabetes on a low carb diet, either partially or completely, depending on the individual.
WARNING: If you take medicines for diabetes (insulin or tablets), you should seek medical advice before embarking on a low carb diet. Failure to do so may be lead to overmedication and hypos which can be life-threatening).
