Dr Robert Szabo - GP
Dr Robert Szabo is a doctor with over 15 years experience. He has a passion for empowering people to improve their health, and believes that the root cause of most health problems is lifestyle, especially diet.
Discovering this has been a personal journey, starting in 2012 when he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at the age of 37. This came as a huge shock, as he had what he thought, was a healthy lifestyle. Even more surprising was that after the diagnosis a dietitian told him he was eating perfectly. He was baffled by this, since he knew that it was something in his diet of oats, lean chicken and brown rice that had resulted in his diabetes.
An endocrinologist treated him with a standard approach of medication, and life went on… Until he discovered low carb nutrition!
When a friend told him about a Low Carb Down Under meeting he had been to where people had said how low carb diets could cure diabetes, a switch clicked over in his mind. The next day he stopped his medication, and stopped eating carbs – only to discover that his blood sugars were virtually normal, off medication!
Since then he has spent many hours discovering how a switch to low carb nutrition is the single most effective change anyone with diabetes can make. He has treated hundred of patients with a low carb eating plan, and found it highly effective for treating diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and general feelings of low energy.
Dr Robert Szabo graduated from Medicine at Monash University in 1999, attaining honours in the MBBS and BMedSc degrees. He attained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners FRACGP in 2008. He has worked in a variety of locations throughout Australia, including Mildura, Darwin, Canberra, Albury/Wodonga and Melbourne. He has been a GP at Modern Medical Balwyn since 2009, during which time he has also practiced in Bayswater.
He lives in Melbourne’s inner north, and loves spending time with his partner and Labradors. He also loves eating, cooking, weight training, and the outdoors.
Camilla Dahl - Dietitian
Camilla is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist who holds a Masters of Nutrition and Dietetic Practice, with previous training in biomedicine and exercise science in Queensland. Studying the physiology of the human body for many years, she had a lightbulb moment and realised how important the impact of daily food choices are for supporting physical and mental health, wellbeing, longevity and prevention of chronic disease.
Following a food first, evidenced based approach to nutrition she prescribes nutrient dense, antioxidant and fibre rich diets that are naturally low in carbohydrates. She is a strong advocate for empowering people to change their health behaviours to help minimise medication use and improve their quality and enjoyment of life. Through nutritious food, she has seen unprecedented improvements in energy, vitality, less hanger, improved skin conditions, inflammation and gut issues.
Following a lifelong, low carbohydrate diet based on humble meat and vegetable dinners herself, Camilla also has interests in intermittent fasting, mindful eating and the gut microbiome.
